Mott MacDonald has launched its next generation Urban Traffic
Management and Control (UTMC) common database system called Osprey.
Following on from its highly successful Common Data Management
Facility and drawing on over a decade of experience in the UTMC
field, the consultancy is bringing together contemporary technology
with industry experience to help clients manage the UK’s road
network.
As one of the key designers and suppliers of UTMC systems, Mott
MacDonald has successfully delivered systems across the UK for key
clients such as Norfolk County, City of Edinburgh, Glasgow City,
and Leeds City councils. The consultancy also recently delivered
one of the UK’s first regional systems for the Tyne and Wear
authorities.
Mott MacDonald’s extensive experience in UTMC has shaped the Osprey
product to meet the challenging demands placed on transport
operators in terms of network management. Osprey is designed to be
an end-to-end offering to help local authorities deliver their
transport plan objectives.
The three main Osprey modules support control room staff in network
management, promote offline analysis of data and provide a platform
for delivery of information to the travelling public.
Osprey Control is the central Osprey module, delivering an
effective Integrated Transport System (ITS) integration platform,
compliant with UTMC standards, for local authority ITS equipment.
It provides a professionally styled map-based user interface,
enabling operators to easily assimilate current network status and
to manage and control connected equipment. Key modules include car
park guidance and strategy, fault, asset and journey time
management. Mott MacDonald offers a huge range of off-the-shelf
adapters which can be used to support integration with a wide range
of systems.
Osprey Analyse allows users to assess the impact that changes in
traffic management and improvements in ITS have on the traffic
flows and the environment, while allowing complex scenarios and
trends to be investigated. It proves a useful tool to monitor key
performance indicators and to analyse before and after scheme
implementation. A suite of data-loaders allows the system to
collect data from various sources including Osprey Control and
other UTMC systems. Information is stored centrally, with the
system providing web-based historical analysis and reporting
facilities.
Osprey Inform provides the tools to support outreach to the public
and enable cross-organisation data sharing. A wide range of public
website options are available, from simple display of dynamic
information to subscription-based alert mechanisms. The Osprey
Inform website can be tailored to the sources of information
available from all local and national transportation providers
appropriate to, and available in, specific areas. The module
optionally includes a real-time display screen capability,
providing access in public spaces. Smartphone apps for a range of
devices are also available, allowing easy access to data for the
public while on the move. Publication of data through mechanisms
such as DATEXII is also provided.
