How can we manage our road network schemes effectively?
Government legislation such as the Traffic Management Act
requires that Local Highways Authorities (LHAs) manage their road
network schemes effectively and efficiently.
An aspect of LHA operations that has significant impact on network
efficiency is the management of schemes from a programme and
project perspective. Experience shows that efficient programming of
multiple road schemes combined with the effective project
management of individual schemes can significantly reduce project
costs and network disruption. It is for this reason that we have
developed an ITS application which has the ability to integrate
with the authorities existing systems such as:
- corporate finance
- corporate GIS mapping
- corporate contacts database
- Urban Traffic Control
- Urban Traffic Management and Control
By integrating the information from these systems, LHAs are able to
easily ascertain:
- Where and when the scheme will be carried out
- What parts of the network will be affected
- Budget, forecast and actual costs for the scheme
- What staff will be assigned to the scheme
- What documentation is available
- What milestones have been met
- What impact the scheme will have at the Urban Traffic Control
level
Quick access to this information within one tool ensures visibility
of all current schemes and so LHAs are better informed as to the
situation of the network.
At Mott MacDonald, we deliver scheme management solutions providing
real value to the LHA staff managing this work. Our experience in
